About Us

the saga of WoofWorld

Hi. My name is Steve - my wife's name is Melissa.  I worked in Quality Assurance for about 13 years, lastly as the Quality Manager at a local tech company for seven years.  Melissa had retired from a long string of retail management jobs to be a "stay-at-home mom" to our four-legged little boy, Scout.  Then I was downsized.

Melissa really wanted to start our own business, because otherwise we would both have to work, and poor Scout would be home alone.  Being an only child, he's pretty spoiled.

Being life-long dog lovers, and seeing a need for quality, fun, dog-related services in the Lehigh Valley, we started WoofWalkers on August 1, 2004.  We initially offered pet and house sitting service, daily dog walk service, and daily "play group."

"Play group," which was held outdoors on our property, quickly became so popular that we ran out of room.  We were also at the mercy of the weather and winter was coming.  Having more dogs in play group much sooner than we anticipated, it became obvious that we needed more room and an indoor facility.  The search began.

When the snow and ice came, we were forced to suspend play groups indefinitely (after all, we'd soon have an indoor facility!) and most of our play group dogs went to daily walks.  On top of that, we were signing up new customers.  Now we had more dogs than we could walk, especially while looking for a commercial property and wading through all the new issues associated with it.

On top of keeping the business going and trying to find a site, now we had to start hiring!  We started interviewing and eventually found three great independent WoofWalkers that work with us:  Chris, Monica, and Wendy.

Meanwhile, we finally had a deal on a property.  But it fell thru.  Not to worry, we found another one.  The owner changed his mind.  Local zoning laws were seriously limiting the choices, and the nature of our business was scaring off potential landlords.  After a few false starts, we finally found our new home (we hope).

Life is good, and we LOVE our jobs!  How many of you deal with bosses so happy to see you that they jump up and lick your face?
